Proto-node Installation Preparation (the same initial steps needed to prepare the master)

• Prepare some disks you will need:
• format a DOS floppy (FAT filesystem).
• download the latest version of MILO and put it on the floppy.  NOTE:  It is important that you have the correct version of MILO.  If your version is incorrect, MILO will not reboot cleanly with "shutdown -r now".  Rather, it will hang and you may receive "kernel alignment trap" errors.  If you can't find the Alpha 300XL MILO, try MILO for ALCOR systems.
• MILO (from DEC website) for the latest kernel release
• MILO (from DEC website) for the RedHat 2.0.30 kernel
• from the RedHat CD put /mnt/cdrom/milo-mirror/alphabios/linload.exe on the floppy.
• build a RAMDISK on a separate floppy (see p. 48 of the RedHat v4.2 manual).
• Set up the hardware:
• Attach the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and power cord to the XL300.
• If necessary, attach monitor power cord to monitor.
• Plug monitor and CPU power cords into outlet.
• Power up monitor and CPU to ensure that the system is functioning properly.
