Beowulf Network Topology
Our Beowulf is implemented as a private network. We use the IP network
address 192.168.2.0 (which is part of the 192.168.0.0 domain reserved by
the powers-that-be for the private networks of us mortals). The nodes (apart
from the master) have no gateway to the outside world nor any domain name
service. They can not communicate to any machine not on the private network.
Furthermore, no DNS service knows of their existence, nor is there any
gateway to them. They are isolated from anything not on their private network.
The master node acts as the access point for the outside world to reach
the Beowulf system. Because it is on the 192.168.2.0 network, it can communicate
with the other nodes, and because it is on the physics subnet 220.127.116.11,
we can communicate with it. We have chosen to try to limit access to the
Master node even from the 18.104.22.168 network as much as possible. The
