Minutes

DASWG LSU F2F meeting

Patrick announcements
  - steering committee
  - PIF -> closer relationship with OSG
  - Warren and Kent conduits for OSG
  - Need to sort out working groups
  - Need F2F 1-day meetings
  - Computing liaisons from source groups (Stuart)

Modification of Frame Spec
  - change in param structure
  - feedback as to other changes for version 7?
  - Benoit gives timescale of few months for time change.
  - Stuarts revisions:
    - add bzip?
    - frVect has unsigned - signed inconsistency
    - define sample rate as double precision in frSerial
    - problems with precision in conversion between second/nanosecond rep and
      fractional second rep (Keith)
    - 16384 Hz does not lend itself to exact nanoseconds (Bruce)
  - Will not change LIGOs Frame Spec version during S5, but VIRGO will use new
    spec
  - proposal to make Benoit's and minimal changes from LIGO in version 7 and
    save rest for version 8.
  - strike a committee to discuss version 8 changes at end of year.
  - Benoit, Stuart, John Z. and Jolien will identify easy and backward
compatible changes by email/phone and incorporate them into version 7 of
    spec.
  - Igor found bug in version 6.20, Benoit is aware and working on it.

Calibration Storage Format
  - close but not wrapped up
  - ascii format will always be available
  - people who should be involved
    - Stuart, Keith, John Z., Patrick
  - provided there are tools most people will not care too much
  - h(t) frames may not adhere to the full frame spec (i.e. have the full
metadata in them), but frame type is defined and being used. Document with
spec does not match frames exactly.

Certificate Authority
  - We were, in the past, obtaining iVDGL certs through DOEGrids
  - Now OSG:LIGO
  - We need to get new info sent with renewal emails.
  - We need to worry about length of service certs and possibly DOE root cert
    expiry.
  - We can mention that there will be European collaborators.
  - Service certificates - internal problem in documentation.
  - Place of MOU PI's for in chain of trust.
  - Signing of emails to sys-admins to update grid-mapfile.
  - Ask Doug to give 20min overview about admin level overview of CA.
  - Ask someone to give 20min overview on VOMs/GUMs.
  - Should have Comp Comm and DASWG of results of CA meeting with OSG on Aug
    20.
  - Should form working group of Warren, Kent, Murali and Junwei.
  - Should add a new item to DASWG webpage.

NEMO
  - opened up
  - not as many friendly users in test phase as would be desired
  - Rejean has successfully run jobs.
  - still problems with power distribution units.
  - other infrastructure seems to be working.
  - announce that doors are open on DASWG and LSC-all mailing lists.
  - ganglia not available yet.
  - CalTech has 32 -> 64 bit transition machine still, might do that for NEMO.
  - Condor is the only issue for 64 bit - no checkpointing still.
  - UWM will wait to see if anyone asks for 32 bit build platform.

Linux release
  - decision to stick with FC4
  - will be on legacy page for at least a year
  - can change head nodes for security if necessary and leave others FC4
  - committee will be formed to discuss platform futures

Documentation
  - need to set up wiki due to user pressure
  - this raises issues:
    - we already have documentation which is not standardized or centralized
      against.
    - we don't have a good track record on porting from one system to the
      next.
  - Bruce points out example with BOINC wiki gone awry.
  - Bruce suggests "moderated" wiki editing, but Patrick thinks moderators
    will not keep up-to-date.
  - Kent discusses OSG docs wiki:
    - there is administrator.
    - accounts usually tied to parts of Wiki.
    - often need to add info to parts you don't have access to.
    - no way to add more complicated structures - people link to html on other
      servers.
  - John W. points out the e-notebooks do not have history, thinks wiki's
might help with analysis group info.
  - Patrick proposes two possibilities for migrating to wiki:
    - migrate existing howtos.
    - consolidate existing info into new howtos.
  - Kent notes that certificate access makes OSG easier.
  - Kipp mentions a subversion based one that allows checkout for offline
    browsing.
  - Feeling that it should be new material in wikis.
