Agenda and Minutes, 1 August 2007

Agenda: Wed, 1 August 2007

Minutes

Attendance:

Ed
Kent
Igor
John Z.
Greg
Keith Th.
Brita
Diego

Announcements:

Ed - Asked Greg how new LDAS was doing at LHO.

Greg - After tweaking some parameters, it seems to be OK.

Ed - Any problems when nodes go offline with disk cache?

Greg - No errors from disk cache on a node failure, but the failure
may not have been the type would test this. There is a framefile corruption
problem at LLO, but it is not due to LDAS. It appears to be a raw frame problem
that started after Tuesday maintenance.

Ed - Remembers that framebuilders assume static memory locations. These may
have changed after the maintenance on Tuesday

- The above regards the installation of the new LDAS release at the
sites during the Tuesday maintenance period.

Greg - Cert renewal with LDG tools was broken. A Linux-only patch was released
over the weekend. There is now a patch for Mac OS X. Let him know if there
are remaining problems

Kent - Sergey's cert renewal problem was solved. It was due to a missing .globus
directory.

Greg - New LDG release is expected soon with bug fixes, new scripts. Changing
TclGlobus package as it is now distributed with VDT.

Ed - Many Globus/LDG tools now use this package.

Greg - Waiting for Scott to announce VDT 1.80 release. It is hoped that this
will be a stable release.

DMT:

John Z - Installing last version on online machines. New framecpp is not backward
compatible with Solaris 9. Changes were required to make it so. He installed root
5.15. But now that version has disappeared from ROOT site, to be replaced with 5.16.
However, 5.16 version won't install. A bug introduced in ROOT shared-object creation
a while ago screws up some DMT code. He is trying to get a workable zlib that is
auto-configurable. He is preparing DMT for lscsoft updates(?).

Glue:

LAL/LALApps:

Diego - New inspiral code use have eigenvalue routines. These need the newer GSL 1.9.
He would like an option added to link LAL/LALApps against GSL 1.9, which was released
in February, 2007. He has been linking against a Lapack equivalent, but this is
difficult to use.

Kent - Have you notified DASWG?

Diego - Jolien knows, but not the wider DASWG.

Ed - Trying to get GSL into RPMs, but Fedora Core 4 does not have an updated GSL.
Recommends e-mailing DASWG/LALApps to formalize request for integration. Adam Miller
is in charge of building RPMs for distribution.

LDAS:

Ed - As noted above, release 1.90 has now been installed at the sites. This should
fix many known problems. He is particularly interested in use of new functionality
that returns second-tier results when NFS (first-tier) is hung. Wants to know if
this works at the sites. This change should allow disk caches to be updated as
files come in (even if NFS is hung).

LDG:

LDR:

Keith - PSU has been having problems get updates from the central LDR for the past
few days. Murali has contacted the relevant parties. Asked if other Tier 2 sites
were having problems.

LIGOTools:

Ed - Mary is working to get all tools to be certificate-aware. This will be backward-
compatible with existing username/password method.

Keith - When will FrContrib updates (mkframe, etc.) be distributed with a new
LigoTools release. There is a new Fr release (v6r24). Who is in charge of this?

Ed - Mary is working with Peter Sh on adding the certificate awareness. Asked if
Peter Sh was still in charge of LigoTools. Suggested contacting Peter Sh (as maintainer)
about this.

lscsoft:

Adam Miller (report submitted after meeting)
Framecpp Release
-framecpp-1.9 has been built for i386 and x86_64
-packages have been published to FC4 Testing Repo

DOL Release
-new release of framecpp requires a rebuild of dol
-new dol release will be marked as dol-0.4.1-9
-packages for x86_64 have been built and published
         to FC4 x86_64 Testing Repo
-still need to build and publish i386 packages

I expect to have the i386 dol packages built later this evening. They
will then be published to the FC4 Testing Repo.

Once all dol and framecpp packages are in the testing repo I will test
them using dol_test.sh.

If test passes then dol and framecpp packages will be published to the
production FC4 repo and an email will be sent to daswg. This will
probably be done by late tonight or early Thursday morning.

MatApps:

Keith - Not much new news. Has completed new tool package 'structarray' to manipulate
the memory-efficient 'structure of arrays' construct.

Onasys:

Online:

OSG:

Brita - They have converted to new system. They should be able to run >1000 jobs
simultaneously, but so far only up to 300.

Kent - This requires fixes to both Condor and Globus. Both teams are working on fixes.
They know how to fix 2 out of 3 of the problems.
