GWDAW-8 Abstract: Astrophysical expectations for searches for precessing binaries

Inspiraling binaries with a black hole and a neutron star are expected to be affected by precession provided that at least the black hole has a significant spin magnitude that is misaligned with respect to the orbital angular momentum axis. Several groups have explored the loss in signal-to-noise ratio of inspiral signals if the precession modifications are not included in the search templates. However so far such calculations have not been coupled to astrophyisal expectations for spin tilt angles. In this talk I will present our recent results from such coupled calculations and I will discuss the implications for the importance of precession in inspiral searches.
