GWDAW-8 Abstract: Stochastic Background Searches with Interferometers and Bars

John Whelan · Loyola University New Orleans · LIGO Scientific Collaboration

I will describe some technical issues involved in carrying out a stochastic background cross-correlation measurement between a resonant bar and an interferometer. In particular, I will present an extension to the work of Finn and Lazzarini [PRD 64 (2001) 082002], describing in general the dependence of the stochastic GW response on the orientation of the bar. I will apply this to some real-world detector pairs and discuss the prospects for signal modulation in stochastic background searches.
