MPI Group Teleconference
Thursday, 7 June 2001  (10:00PST)
Minutes:

Attendance: Kent Blackburn, Masha Barnes, Phil Ehrens, Duncan Brown,
Philip Charlton, Patrick Brady (minutes)

FCT DSO:
-------

no work being done at present because of all the other things.
Philip will not be able to work on it much this summer. LAL would not build on
RedHat 7.1 but some small change will work.

Philip: working for the last week or so. A few typos in the howto. A couple
of things need to be mentioned in the document that were not there. Did not
have many problems dooing the shared object. About 4-5 days to get started
....... needed to look at the examples that were in the LALwrapper archive
..... computes the moments.

Maybe add typical minimalist code is 700-1000 lines, most of which is just
boiler plate. Does not try to compute progress very accurately or do load
balancing.

One thing he would have liked was to transmission of single vector rather than
a value in the examples.

LALWrapper is not working on Sun's -- we need to fix it.

Stochastic DSO:
--------------

Joe is coding up the stochastic. Had a bunch of questions about LALWrapper.
Status is that code is getting further and further along.

Points raised by Joe:

--- abnormal exit should clean up memory. Current shared objects don't do
this. Assumption that anything in LAL fails in wrapper functions, then
the job fails completely. Should we do more? No. This is the model
  carried by wrapperAPI and Kent.

--- Appending of data to the inout pointer. Baseline requirements allow
data to be added to that. Problem is that wrapperAPI cannot free memory
  that is allocated by LAL.

--- WrapperAPI may free the inout pointer somewhere that we may need to free
differently. If they append something to the structure, must make sure
that they get freed and set to NULL.

Inspiral DSO:
------------

Duncan has been running the code at UWM on the Beowulf. He has been doing
some testing which is what is going on. There is not much happening about the
normalizations. No changes to the shared object code.

Conventions:
-----------

FFT document needs to be distributed to all other people in the LSC in
addition to the LAL, LALWrapper, and LDAS API's.

LDAS:
----

Kent working on a release. Phil has been working on the datapipeline job
more robust. The performance time has improved with this new gcc. CHanges
were to fix optimization issues. Timing of various steps in jobs. There
should be a nice release this time. The how-to build document is being
update. There is nothing significant that showed up since the shift to LAM
6.5.2; good thing. So they removed lam-6.5.1. Therefore we needed to
move to the new version.

Other Business:
--------------

Stochastic MDC will be postponed until later in the year.
