We present development progress of a CO2 laser based fused silica ribbon pulling and system. Also presented are measurements of dissipation in cylindrical laser pulled fibres investigating losses in the surface, bulk and welded regions of the fibres Author List: A. Heptonstall, A. I will discuss experiments currently being performed to explore squeezed light and radiation pressure effects to reduce this noise, and also show how these effects may be used to probe quantum mechanics with gram-scale objects.
