Class Web Site:

You can find an updated version of this syllabus at:
http://www.lsc-group.phys.uwm.edu/~agw/PHYS210/schedule.html
I will try to keep this page up-to-date with the new homework assignments.

Homework:

(1) It counts toward your grade!
(2) Generally the Assignment will be given out on Weds or Friday and
DUE THE NEXT WEEK ON  THURSDAY.
(2) Turn Homework in at Thursday Discussion Session!
(3) No Late Homework.
(4) If you don't do the homework -- your cooked.
(5)  You may discuss homework solutions with other students, but the work you turn in
should be your own, i.e. don't just copy someone else's solution: personalize it.

Quizzes:

There will be weekly quizzes given in the discussion sections. The problems will
come (almost) directly from the homework assignments.

Course Requirements and Grading:

Your grade will be figured from your performance on the the homework,  weekly
quizzes,  midterm exams, and the final exam.  The break down will be

 Homework:  20%
 Quizzes  15%
 Midterm 1 (Weds. 3 Oct.  in class )   20%

 Final Exam  (10:00- 12:00, Sat. 15 Dec.)
Comprehensive

 Total  100%

Contrary to what you may hear from your friends, I will curve the grades.

Attendance:

Attendance is mandatory. Attendance will be taken (both in the lectures and the discussion
section) . One half percentage point will be deducted from your total score for each class
missed in excess of 6. ``Class" is defined as either lecture or discussion.

 EXAMS:
-- There will be no make up Exams, except for documented medical emergencies.
-- You MAY NOT use calculators on exams.

Mathematical Skills:

Quotation from one of my colleagues: ``The importance of basis math cannot be over-emphasized.
You absolutely must be comfortable with basic algebra and trigonometry [and calculus] or you will not even be
able to read the course text. These are used, but not taught in detail in this course. If you have
serious problems with these topics  drop now.''

Discussion Sections:

You can get lots of help with the material in the discussion sessions.  The teaching assistants are:

o   Antonios Tsokoros:    (Ds601,602,603)
o   Trever Johnson:  Section (Ds604)

Withdrawing from the course:

Philosophy and goals for the course:
