Testing Results
Tests completed on 3-18-04
Test 1
Short power failure
This test will effect the 20 nodes attached to one ups.
- Unplug power cable from ceiling.
- After one minute plug power cable back into ceiling.
Proper Result: None of the 20 attached nodes should shutdown.
Result: PASSED
Test 2
This test will effect the 20 nodes attached to one ups.
- The power cord of one ups was pulled from the ceiling.
- The network cables are unplugged from the highest 10 nodes on the ups
- The network cable is unplugged from the ups master-node.
- The power cable is plugged back into the ceiling. (this should be less the
1 min after the power was origanally removed from the ceiling)
Proper Result: All 19 slave nodes should shutdown. Master node should not
shutdown.
Result: PASSED
(Nodes waited ~2mins before shutting themselves down.
I expected the nodes to shutdown after ~20secs. This shows I do not understand
exactly how this process works but I did notice all the nodes all shutdown at
exactly the same time. There will be more tests of this in the future to try
and figure out what is going on.)
Test 3
Long power failure
This test effects 20 nodes
- Unplug power cable from ceiling.
- Wait for all 20 nodes to shutdown and plug cable back into ceiling.
Proper Result: All nodes will shutdown.
Result: PASSED (This test is reproduced on 4-1-04)

For all of the following tests the nodes are set to shutdown after 2 mins.
Test 1
Long power failure with idle nodes
The test effects 20 nodes
- Pull ups power cable for nodes s101-s120
- After all nodes shutdown plug ups cable back in.
- Etherwake nodes. Make sure they all come back up.
Proper Result: All 20 nodes should shutdown cleanly and etherwake
Result: PASSED
- 13:17:05 the plug to s101 ups plug was pulled from wall
- 13:20:19 the last node (i.e. the masternode) halted
3min 14sec for halt
Test 2
Long power failure with idle nodes
The test effects 20 nodes
- Pull ups power cable for nodes s081-s100
- After all nodes shutdown plug ups cable back in.
- Etherwake nodes. Make sure they all come back up.
Proper Result: All 20 nodes should shutdown cleanly and etherwake
Result: PASSED
- 13:22:52 the plug to s81 ups plug was pulled from wall
- 13:26:06 the last node (i.e. the masternode) halted
3min 14sec for halt
Test 3
Cut Power at breaker with nodes running heat
The test effects 20 nodes
- Flipped power breaker for slave nodes s081-s120
- Flip power back on at breaker after all nodes shutdown.
- Etherwake nodes.
Proper Result: All 20 nodes shutdown and etherwake.
Result: PASSED
- 13:38:54 the breakers were flipped
- 13:42:21 the last node (i.e. the masternode) halted
3min 27sec for halt
Test 4
Flip power breaker for all slave nodes (1-296) while nodes are idle.
This test effects all 296 slave nodes.
- Flip power breakers for all slave nodes (1-296).
- After all nodes shutdown return power at breaker
- Etherwake all nodes.
Proper Result: All 296 nodes should shutdown and etherwake.
Result: PASSED
Test 5
Flip power breaker for all slave nodes (1-196) while nodes are running
heat.
This test effects all 296 slave nodes.
- Startup heat on all slave nodes
- Flip power breakers for all slave nodes (1-296).
- After all nodes shutdown return power at breaker
- Etherwake all nodes.
Proper Result: All 296 nodes should shutdown and etherwake.
Result: PASSED
