Active and Possible External Collaborations

LSC-Virgo Policy

The DAC maintains an up-to-date draft of the LSC-Virgo policy statement on external collaborations.

Purpose and Scope

The purpose of this web page is to keep track of the past, current, and planned/possible future collaborations between the LSC+Virgo Burst Group and "external" scientists. A collaboration or possible collaboration should be listed here if it will or might lead to a publication with the full LSC+Virgo author list plus one or more additional authors (the external scientist(s)), which typically means that it involves the use of LIGO, GEO 600, and/or Virgo data in some way. On the other hand, a project pursued by some LSC/Virgo members and some non-member(s) that would only lead to a short-author-list publication does not have to be listed here.

Based on this overview web page and on numerous discussions, a document is being written to lay out the plan for what we actually want to do in 2008/2009. The document is here: LaTeX source, PDF.

Instructions

To add a new listing of an active or possible collaboration: Get a copy of this HTML template form and fill in the sections as best you can. It's OK if you aren't sure about the answers (just say so) or if some questions are not applicable. If some relevant information doesn't fit into the structure of the template, adjust it as needed or use the "Comments" area at the end. Feel free to include html links, e.g. to project web sites. Save your file with a new, meaningful name.

If you have access to the bursts CVS, then 'add' and 'commit' your new file in the 'collabs/' directory. Also edit this file, collabs/index.html, to add a row in the appropriate table below, including the "stage" of the collaboration (e.g. 'Just an idea', 'Informal discussions', 'Discussing details', 'Ready to start work', 'Work underway', 'Work completed', 'Writing paper', 'Completed', 'Discontinued') and the MOU status (e.g. 'None', 'Drafting', 'Awaiting approval', 'Approved', 'Expired'). As the collaboration progresses, please edit this index.html file to keep the "stage" and MOU status information up to date. And remember to commit all your changes to CVS!

If you don't have access to the burst CVS, please get an account by following the instructions here. (In the meantime, while waiting for your account to be created, you can send your file to Peter, Erik, or Patrice. Please also tell us the "stage" and MOU status that should be entered in the appropriate table below.)
