Minutes

  1. Update on S4 LIGO all-sky search
    • Keith Thorne is doing process review this week and will be coordinating code walk-through with Laura at the end of the week.
    • Still need to check numbers, etc., and write up sanity check conclusions.
    • All-day telecon for discussion of this search and the GRB search is October 3. Expect to have a revised (nearly final) draft by then.
  2. Update on S4 LIGO-GEO all-sky search
    • No report.
  3. Update on S2-S3-S4 GRB-triggered search
    • Norna's comments on new draft posted.
    • Reviewer comments from earlier draft have not all been addressed in current draft. Will wait for next draft before sending new comments. Until then, look at new sections on discussion and population study
    • Update on polarization document [ PDF ]. Questions about factor of five difference between UL for linear polarization and circular polarization when difference in strains is on average (over linear polarization angle) is only a factor of 2. Reason must be due to the fact that this is a 90% UL. That is: what value of |sin| is at the 10th percentile? (About 1/5.) In fact, need to fold in efficiency curve. Perhaps it would be better to look at the differences in the 50%ile rather than the 90%ile. Then expect a factor of 2 difference.
  4. Update on SGR search
    • Luca has worked on code: polishing, documenting. Will put in matapps in a few days.
    • Code review document will be sent to Peter and Shourov soon.
    • From last week's meeting: investigated widths of background EP distribution using a 8 Hz band and a 10 Hz band near the 180 Hz feature. If the line is still intruding into the band, might expect larger variance. In fact, see comparable variance (difference as expected). So the bands are probably largely free from corruption (even due to a wandering line). Luca's message:

          I think the question from the past review meeting was to check if the scaling from 10Hz down to 8Hz is consistent to expectations.
      
          I measured the following. The width of the two distributions (10Hz and 8Hz bandwidths) are
      
          sigma_10Hz = 4.979e-22 strain/rHz
          sigma_8Hz  = 4.6686e-22strain/rHz
      
          Their ratio is
      
          sigma_10Hz / sigma_8Hz = 1.066
      
          The expected change should go like (10/8)^0.25 = 1.057 which seems to agree well.
