Minutes

  1. GWDAW Presentations
    • To ease review pressure, note that:
      • Published results may be presented;
      • Previously reviewed results may be presented as they were before;
      • Updated results are not allowed
      • New results must be reviewed carefully
    • Discussion of what "updated" results means. In context of HTA S5 search, could have previous results of the first three months presented side-by-side with the new results for the second three months; this would be better than presenting a combined six-month result.
    • We will look at presentations next week. For next meeting we need:
      • Presentation drafts available
      • New results (those requiring review) highlighted
      • Technical reports that provide necessary supporting documentation of the new results must be up-to-date.
    • Keith Thorne raised an issue with the sensitivity estimates of the S5 analysis using h(t). There seems to be an issue regarding how injections are being done into h(t) that gives "radically different" CorrPower gamma distributions depending on whether injections are done in h(t) or in DARM_ERR. Brian asked that Keith provide a write-up of the issue. Keith suspects that it is not a calibration issue but a usage issue but it needs to be resolved.
    • Jay's talk at Texas symp. will have two slides from burst group: a slide on S5 untriggered search and a slide on GRB/SGR search. These are nearly complete. These slides will need to be reviewed too. Will have these later today.
    • Our goal is to look at all the "for LSC" talks, but perhaps not much more than just looking at them for the detchar session talks. Burst group will assign people to skim the "not for LSC" talks to make sure that they don't contain inappropriate uses of LIGO data.
  2. S4 Untriggered Search Review Status
    • Semi-major changes: group has agreed that they want to (i) add a comparison with most recent Rome results, and (ii) include estimate of the search's range for various types of sources. Haven't done much more than this.
    • Keith Thorne has continued looking at CorrPower pre/post scripts but has not been able to schedule a code walk-through yet.
    • Keith Riles has checked fits. They seem to be fine.
  3. GRB Search Review Status
    • Soumya has revised SNR upper bound taking into account the antenna response as a function of sky position of GRB as well as correcting redshift factor. New exclusion curve plots have been made.
    • Itemized list of changes that need to be made to paper. Many are notational.
    • In addition, there is a factor of 2 in defn. of SNR. Also, it would be better if energy limits used E_iso formula, Eq. (25), rather than Eq. (30) since emission mechanism from long GRBs is uncertain.
    • Hypothetical exclusion curve from 100 GRBs too optimistic: cut it down to 35 GRBs with near optimal locations.
