  1. Announcements: LSC meeting
    • Short presentation of SGR paper at LSC meeting. One request: why PRL? Working on document.
    • Change of paper: ratio of EM/GW energy. Setting lower limits on this number. Caused confusion. Switch to 1/previous. Now upper limits.
    • No comments about LIGO-GEO paper. One suggestion about minor change to cWB pipeline.
  2. Consideration of S4 LIGO-GEO paper for approval [ PDF ]
    • Systematics: question about whether calibration would adversely affect cWB. Calibration uncertainties were not included in this paper.
    • Figure 6: want error bands so it looks like Fig. 4b.
    • This committee recommends approval of the paper for publication pending resolution of a couple minor issues: missing cWB job; a few comments by JC to be addressed; ...
  3. Consideration of S5 1st year SGR paper for approval
    • New version [ PDF ].
    • Peter Shawhan comments:
      1. Why Re(a b*) rather than |a b*|? Not symmetric under swapping detectors? Claim in paper is that this is the cross-power spectrum, but not clear that it is. Need to think about this. Kipp is convinced that this is correct.
      2. "In a matched filter search, a 200 ms RD template loses at most about 10% amplitude signal-to-noise for signals in the range 100–400 ms [36]; we expect the loss to be less than this in our excess power search". Not convinced that this search has less than 10% loss. Need to check what actual loss is.
      3. Upper limits: 3 different analyses for each analysis. Is this OK?
      4. Polarizations: Circularly + linearly polarized. WNB is unpolarized.
      5. Length: 0.5 pages too long. Possibility is to submit as it is and if it is accepted then trim it.
      6. Question about gamma = 1e5 possibility in Ioka reference. Somewhat confusing, but some models here seem to be 1e5. How confident can we extract this number? Will email author.
