Minutes

  1. Announcements
  2. Status of S5y1 all-sky search papers
    • Low-frequency search [ PDF ]
      • Laura wrote scripts for computing the UL for the first year search. Need to rewrite to do second year and at that time will check that the first year is correct.
      • Script analyzes all injections made into the year regardless of the detector status. This means efficiencies are low, but it is product of efficiency with livetime that matters.
      • Action contact the review teams to check that the single pipeline livetimes are consistent with what Laura is doing.
      • Notational issues etc. with cWB, QPipeline, ....
      • Need to identify specific issues.
      • Reviewers: please read this week if possible.
      • Need to check UL, efficiency curves, livetime calculations.
    • High-frequency search [ PDF ]
      • Bisquare window now mentioned but equation still has a gaussian. Need to change equation.
      • Calibration issues for HF paper: Calbration issues still on track to be resolved by end of the month.
      • Reviewers: look at this paper as well.
  3. Status of S5y2/VSR1 all-sky search paper
    • Status: missing dq material (Lindy/Josh will provide); Comments from Brennan received; Text from MAB received (material still missing); Virgo author list being developed; EGC algorithm to be explained; UL processing still to be done. Possible date for semi-complete draft: beginning of March. Review reports too.
    • What is the status of the Omega and EGC review? Will review reports be ready? cWB review progressing steadily -- no problems so far. Code review for HF part has been done. Traditional checks to be done. They've been assigned. Checks will be done.
    • Questions about EGC results -- one of the events doesn't show up with new tuning?
    • Proposed results section [ PDF ].
      • Discussion about events prior to Cat 3 DQ flags. Sergey does not want to include additional events on the same footing as the main result.
      • Abstract: "event cannot be identified"... suggest "we do not"... perhaps it is the word "identified"... Why not "we do not have sufficient evidence to identify this trigger as a gravitational wave signal". "We conclude that it is highly unlikely to be a gravitational wave signal". "Cannot be identified..." requires a burden of proof that I don't think we have.
      • Reviewers please read this and comment.
  4. A.O.B.
    • Need to email review teams to get review presentaitons done before LV meeting.
