S4 LIGO-GEO Burst Review Committee Meeting Wednesday 14 May 2008 10:00 Eastern

Agenda and minutes of the weekly LIGO-GEO S4 Bursts Review telecon, held Wednesdays at 10:00 Eastern time.

  1. Updates on outstanding action items from last telecon:
    1. new trigger lists (background and zero lag) for the WB+CP analysis should be produced (Siong,Laura)
    2. script for production of trigger lists should be posted (Siong)
    3. script for application of the CP PP cuts should be posted (Siong)
    4. redo Figure 4 with the correct live time calculated by Igor (Siong) publish live time table
    5. redo Figure 3 (Siong). Ascii file with data points has been distributed by Igor.
    6. review text in section 5.1 for discrepancies (Siong, Sergey)

      In progress: Shourov Chatterji has run Q-scan on both events using the GW channels. However, he was not sure of the WB convention for time lags, so he produced 2 scans for each event, one for each possible sign. Igor has supplied data that accounts for the time lag.
      Action item: Siong will use Igor's data to figure out which Q scans are the right ones. He will also check with Chatterji about running Q scan on some auxiliary channels.
  2. Status of the paper. [ HEAD version ]
    Heng: Changes since release version of last week:
    • Description of "poisson error bars" in Figure 3,4 captions updated following comments by Riles.
    • Figure 3 (rate vs. Zg threshold) updated using better binning, and error bars, supplied by Yakushin.

    Sutton had a few ``significant'' comments:
    • Title sounds very methodological and has drawn some complaints. Suggest we think of possible alternatives.
    • The cWB efficiencies don't go to 1 at large amplitude. This is understood in terms of the antenna responses of those injections. We should add a comment in the paper.
    • The description of the cWB algorithm does not include any use of constraints or regulators. He thinks this could be added with little additional material. Will discuss by email, since Klimenko is not on the call.
    • The description of how cWB picks black pixels is misleading. The text states that the coherent likelihood is computed for all TF pixels before thresholding, while the cWB technical documentation shows that black TF pixels are selected first based on incoherent energy thresholds, and coherent likelihoods only computed later for those black pixels (and not the whole maps). Will also discuss this by email.
    • Should note in comparison to LIGO-only hrss50% that we have factored out the 10% calibration systematic factor from the LIGO-only results to allow direct comparison to LIGO-GEO.
    • Should check effect of nearest-sample roundoff error in BurstMDC on cWB efficiencies at highest frequencies.
    Action items:
    • Sutton: Missing the S4H1H2L1v07_segmentlist.txt file, which is needed to verify the new segment lists.
      Yakushin: Found copy of file in his LLO account.
    • Action item: Yakushin will forward link to missing file, also link to CVS copy (if there is one).
    • Sutton: will double-check new segment lists, noise and injection trigger lists for consistency.
    • Sutton: Will redo checks on missed loudest injections for each pipeline.
    • Sutton: will email Jolien to request his (numerous) comments on the paper.
    • Zanolin: will read draft carefully and send comments.
  3. Proposed timetable to finalize the paper:
    1. complete all suggested changes and present the paper to the LG review on May 9-10.

    2. discuss the paper during the s4-ligogeo review call on May 14

    3. present paper to the burst review on May 19
      Deferred: Sutton would like time to double-check corrected segment lists, draft report and presentation. Busy this week due to family commitments. Also, May 19 burst review telecon to be devoted to starting S5 all-sky review. Suggests plannign presentation for May 26 telecon, which should give plenty of time to prepare and also before next ExecComm meeting.
