S4 LIGO-GEO Burst Review Committee Meeting Wednesday 28 May 2008 10:00 Eastern

Agenda and minutes of the weekly LIGO-GEO S4 Bursts Review telecon, held Wednesdays at 10:00 Eastern time.

Agenda and Contact Info

Agenda

  1. Updates on outstanding action items from last telecon:
    1. Heng: produce Q-scans of 2 outliers with Zg>8
    2. Sutton: double-check new segment lists, noise and injection trigger lists for consistency. [ segments list page ]
    3. Sutton: redo checks on missed loudest injections for each pipeline.
    4. Klimenko: Edit cWB description according to discussion from previous week.
    5. Klimenko: Determine whether loud injections missed by cWB are due to single-detector cut of network correlation (or both).
  2. Status of the paper. [ HEAD version ]
    1. Response to Jolien's comments.
    2. Other comments, discussion.
  3. Proposed timetable to finalize the paper:
    1. Present paper to the burst review on June 02 (in May 26 telecon cancelled).
    2. ExecComm meeting around June 19.
  4. A.O.B.

Walk-through of agenda items

  1. Updates on outstanding action items from last telecon:
    1. Heng: produce Q-scans of 2 outliers with Zg>8
PENDING. Heng needs to chase up Chatterji.
    2. Sutton: double-check new segment lists, noise and injection trigger lists for consistency. [ segments list page ]
IN PROGRESS. Finished double-checking segment lists for both pipelines. In each case there is a small discrepancy. For iWB the verified list contains a 600-sec interval that was not included in the common set of times used for final efficiencies and trigger lists. 3 iWB-CP triggers (all background and low Gamma) were not included in the final set because of this omission. For cWB, the livetime reported on the cWB results page is 597 sec shorter than expected from the segment lists. Klimenko thinks this is probably the result of a single failed job.
Action item: Klimenko will figure out which job failed.
    3. Sutton: redo checks on missed loudest injections for each pipeline.
      PENDING.
    4. Klimenko: Edit cWB description according to discussion from previous week.
      DONE
    5. Klimenko: Determine whether loud injections missed by cWB are due to single-detector cut of network correlation (or both).
      PENDING
  2. Status of the paper. [ HEAD version ]
    1. Discussed edits by Klimenko.
CORRECTION: Text changed to state that sky position is chosen by max network correlation, not max likelihood. Previous versions of the paper were in error on this point.
Introduced description of regulator. Sutton suggested dropping non-regularized likelihood, since it is never used. Argument over whether regularized likelihood operator is a projection; consensus to simply refer to it as the "operator P" in the text after eqn (10).
Discussion of revised text on black-pixel selection. Sutton not sure he likes the setence that states that the total energy is computed for all pixels, since it is only done for black pixels that pass the first threshold. Klimenko says there is no difference for results - will get exactly the same result if had skipped first incoherent step. Will resolve over email.
    2. Other comments, discussion.
  3. Proposed timetable to finalize the paper:
    1. Present paper to the burst review on June 02 (in May 26 telecon cancelled).
Sutton will not be able to attend June 02 burst review telecon. Will discuss with Creighton et al. options for the presentation. May do on Wednesday telecon. Riles does not wish to do the presentation :)!
  4. A.O.B.
